Vizag's food scene is underrated. Most visitors come for the beaches and the ghats, but the city has a genuinely good spread of local food — from banana-leaf Andhra meals to fresh seafood straight off the boat. The best way to experience it? On a bike. You can get into the narrow lanes, stop wherever something looks good, and cover the whole city in a single day without worrying about parking.
Here's a real food tour of Vizag, built around places we know and our customers have actually been to.
The Jagadamba area in central Vizag comes alive early. By 7 AM the tiffin centres are packed with locals on their way to work. Idli, pesarattu, upma, and strong filter coffee — the breakfast here is simple and genuinely good. Sit at the table, eat what they bring, and watch the city wake up. This is not a tourist experience — it's what Vizag actually eats for breakfast.
Daspalla Hotel in Siripuram is one of Vizag's most well-known restaurants for authentic Andhra cuisine. The lunch thali served on a banana leaf — rice, dal, multiple curries, rasam, curd — is the real deal. It's not fancy, but the food is excellent and the portions are generous. Meals start from around 11:30 AM. Worth the visit if you want to understand what proper Andhra cooking tastes like.
Chaat Galli in the Lawsons Bay area is where Vizag locals head for street snacks in the afternoon. Pani puri, bhel puri, masala pav — packed, lively, and genuinely good. If you're riding up toward Rushikonda, House of Chaats there is another solid option in the same vein. Either way, budget ₹50–80 and go hungry.
For seafood, Sea Inn is one of Vizag's well-regarded spots for fresh fish and prawn preparations done in coastal Andhra style — spicy, flavourful, no frills. Raju Gaari Dhaba is another popular choice among locals, known for its rustic setting and generous portions. Both are worth the ride and a good way to end a day of exploring the city on a bike.
If you're riding up the coast toward Rushikonda, stop at one of the small beach shacks that set up in the evening near the beach. Fresh fish fried or grilled on the spot, eaten with rice and dal. It's basic, inexpensive, and about as fresh as seafood gets. The setting — plastic chairs on the sand, ocean in front of you — is hard to beat.
Hotel Woodlands has been around in Vizag for a long time and is known for pure vegetarian South Indian food done well. If you've had enough spice and want something comforting — good sambar, soft idlis, crisp dosas — this is a reliable choice for dinner. Located near Siripuram, easy to get to on a bike.
Carry cash — most of these places don't take cards. Start the tour early to cover more ground. A scooter is the ideal bike for this kind of city riding — easy to park, easy to manoeuvre in traffic. And come hungry — Vizag portions are generous.
