Across 23 real closed rentals, averaging about 48 days each, the effective rate worked out to ₹391 per day once the long-duration rate kicked in.

Stretch that across a full 4-year course, renting continuously for all 48 months with no breaks:

• ₹391/day × 365 days × 4 years ≈ ₹5,71,000 total, or roughly ₹11,900/month

That figure includes zero maintenance worry, zero insurance paperwork, and zero breakdown cost on your side — if anything mechanical goes wrong, it's our bike and our problem to fix. But as a pure number for 4 years of continuous use, it's a big one.

What Buying a Scooter Actually Costs Over 4 Years

Buying looks cheaper upfront, but the honest comparison has to include everything, not just the sticker price. Here's a realistic breakdown for a base-model 110cc scooter (an Activa or similar) bought new:

• On-road price: approximately ₹85,000-95,000 (check current showroom pricing — this moves with fuel-type, variant, and yearly price revisions)
• Insurance: roughly ₹4,500/year × 4 years ≈ ₹18,000
• Routine service and maintenance: roughly ₹3,000-4,000/year across 4 years ≈ ₹14,000
• Resale value after 4 years: a well-maintained scooter typically resells for 40-50% of its original price — call it ₹40,000 back in your pocket

Net cost of ownership: roughly ₹90,000 + ₹18,000 + ₹14,000 − ₹40,000 ≈ ₹82,000 over the full 4 years — about ₹1,700/month averaged out. (Fuel is left out of both sides on purpose, since you'd spend roughly the same riding either a rented or an owned scooter the same distance.)

So Buying Wins — If You're Actually Riding for the Full 4 Years

Run purely on the numbers, buying is dramatically cheaper than renting continuously for 4 straight years — roughly ₹82,000 owned versus ₹5,71,000 rented. If you know for certain you'll be in Vizag riding daily for all 4 years, and your family can put down the upfront cost, buying is the financially obvious choice. We'd tell you that honestly even though we rent bikes for a living.

Where Renting Still Genuinely Makes Sense

That said, "buy" isn't automatically right for every student, because the 4-year renting-continuously scenario above isn't how most students actually use a bike. A few real situations where renting wins instead:

• You don't ride year-round. Most students go home for 2-3 months a year between semesters. A bike sitting parked at your hostel or PG for months isn't earning its cost — renting only for the months you're actually in Vizag can easily cut that ₹5,71,000 figure by a quarter or more.
