Riding Safe in Vizag — What You Actually Need

We're not going to give you a lecture. You already know riding without protection is a bad idea. What we will do is tell you what's actually worth carrying when you're riding around Vizag — based on the routes, the weather, and the traffic conditions we deal with every day.

The Helmet — Non-Negotiable

We provide one helmet with every bike rental. Wearing it is mandatory — both legally and for obvious reasons. If you're bringing your own, make sure it's ISI certified. Full-face helmets give you the best protection, especially on highway and ghat routes. Open-face helmets are fine for shorter city rides but leave your chin and face exposed in a fall.

One thing people often forget: pillion riders need helmets too. We can provide a second helmet for ₹50/day if needed — just ask when you book.

What to Wear

Vizag is hot for most of the year, and we understand the temptation to ride in a t-shirt. But if you're heading out on a longer ride or going to the ghats, at minimum wear full-length trousers and closed shoes. Sandals and shorts are fine for a quick beach ride but offer no protection in a slide.

If you're doing the Araku route or riding during monsoon, a light riding jacket with elbow and shoulder padding makes a real difference. They're not as hot as they look and the protection is worth it.

Monsoon-Specific Gear

Vizag's monsoon runs from June to September and the roads can get unpredictable — especially near the beaches and on the ghat routes. If you're riding in the rain, a waterproof rain suit over your regular clothes is the practical solution. Waterproof gloves help too — wet hands on handlebars are a genuine safety issue. Make sure your visor is clear and anti-fog treated if possible.

Summer Riding

April and May can be brutal in Vizag — temperatures regularly cross 38-40°C. Start early (before 8 AM), carry water, and take breaks in shade when needed. Dehydration affects your concentration more than most riders realise. Light-coloured, breathable clothing helps. Avoid riding between 12 PM and 3 PM during peak summer if you can.

On the Road

Vizag's city traffic is manageable but unpredictable near auto-rickshaw stands and markets. The Beach Road and coastal stretches are more relaxed. On ghat routes, always stay on your side of the road on blind curves — trucks and buses come through at unexpected speeds. Ride within your comfort zone, not within the bike's maximum capability.

At Ever Green Travels, we do a full safety briefing and vehicle inspection with every customer before they leave. If you have questions about a specific route or riding conditions, just ask — we'd rather spend five minutes talking through it than have you figure it out on the road. See our fleet of well-maintained bikes and scooters.
