For decades, flying into Visakhapatnam meant landing almost in the middle of the city. The old civilian terminal at INS Dega was a short drive from the railway station, the beach road and the business districts. That has now changed.
Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram began commercial flights on 17 August 2026, and civilian flights are moving there from INS Dega. It is a big upgrade for the region, with a runway built for wide-body aircraft and room to grow. For travellers it brings one practical change: distance.
Bhogapuram sits on National Highway 16 in Vizianagaram district, roughly 40 km from Visakhapatnam. Getting into the city is no longer a quick auto ride, so it is worth planning how you will get around once you arrive. This guide covers exactly that.
The drive from the airport to central Vizag (RK Beach, the railway station area, Dwaraka Nagar) takes around an hour, longer at peak times. Plan your onward journey before you land, particularly for early-morning or late-night flights when there are fewer cabs waiting.
Once you reach Vizag, a cab for every outing adds up fast. With your own bike or car you can reach the beaches, the hilltop viewpoints and the day-trip routes on your own schedule, stop wherever you like, and skip waiting for rides.

Ever Green Travels is at Railway New Colony, a 5 to 10 minute walk from Visakhapatnam Railway Station, and we are open every day from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM. After you land at Bhogapuram, head into the city and collect your vehicle from us.
We offer pickup and drop within Visakhapatnam city limits for a nominal fee, subject to staff availability. We do not deliver to or collect from Bhogapuram airport.
The Beach Road to Bheemunipatnam (Bheemili) is the classic first ride: it runs along the coast past Rushikonda Beach, with the Bay of Bengal on one side and green hills on the other. Stop at Kailasagiri on the way for the view over the city.
Note that our scooters priced at ₹500/day or less are for use within Vizag only. For trips out of the city, choose one of the outstation-allowed vehicles marked in our price list. Cars taken more than 30 km from Vizag carry an outstation charge of ₹500 per day.
