Lambasingi sits at around 1,000 metres above sea level in the Eastern Ghats, about 100 km from Vizag. It's called the "Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh" — not because it looks like Kashmir, but because it's one of the only places in AP where temperatures drop near freezing, fog covers the hillside at dawn, and apple and strawberry orchards grow where you'd expect paddy fields.
If you're renting a bike in Vizag and haven't considered a Lambasingi trip, this guide is for you.
Distance: Approximately 95–105 km from Visakhapatnam depending on your starting point.
Route: Vizag → Narsipatnam → Chintapalli → Lambasingi
Riding time: 2.5 to 3 hours one way, not including stops.
The first stretch on NH-516 toward Narsipatnam is smooth highway riding. Once you turn toward Chintapalli, the road changes — narrower, winding ghat sections with dense forest on both sides and tribal villages along the way. This second half is the best part of the ride.
October to January is the sweet spot. Temperatures drop to 4–8°C at night during peak winter (December–January). The fog is thickest in the early hours — if you can be there at sunrise, the entire hillside is covered in white and visibility drops to about 10 metres.
September works for early season — post-monsoon greenery at its peak, clear roads, less crowded than December.
Avoid April–May. The drive is still beautiful but the "hill station" experience is largely lost in the heat.
The ghat section between Chintapalli and Lambasingi involves sustained climbs on narrow roads. A 100cc scooter will labour on the steeper sections.
Our recommendation: a 150cc+ motorcycle for this trip. The Hero Glamour at ₹498/day is a solid all-rounder. The Bajaj Avenger or Pulsar at ₹698/day handles the ghats with ease. For the full experience, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 at ₹1,298/day turns a good trip into a memorable one.
A day trip is possible — leave by 5:30 AM, reach Lambasingi by 9 AM, spend 3–4 hours, back by 4–5 PM. But overnight is better. Homestays are available for ₹800–1,500 per night. Waking up there in the fog is worth the extra stay.
