Exploring Vizag's Hidden Beaches on a Bike

Last updated: 2025-07-12

Vizag Has More Beaches Than Most Visitors Ever See

Ramakrishna Beach and Rushikonda get all the footfall. But Vizag's coastline stretches much further than that, and some of the best spots along it are places you simply can't reach without your own transport. An auto won't take you there. A cab driver won't know the way. A rental bike in Vizag will.

1. Yarada Beach — The One Most Visitors Miss

Yarada is arguably the most beautiful beach in Vizag and one of the least visited. The road takes you over a small hill — climb it on your bike and you get a stunning view of the bay before the descent. The beach is clean, wide, and rarely crowded even on weekends.

Head south toward Dolphin's Nose Lighthouse. The route is narrow and hilly in places — a scooter or 150cc bike handles it comfortably. Distance from Railway Station: about 16 km.

2. Bheemunipatnam (Bhimli) — Where the River Meets the Sea

Bheemunipatnam is where the Gosthani River meets the Bay of Bengal. The Dutch cemetery here is one of the oldest in India — an unexpected slice of history on a beach trip. The beach is wide and uncrowded, and the estuary at sunrise is quietly spectacular.

Distance from Vizag: about 24 km north along the Beach Road. One of the most pleasant coastal rides in the area.

3. Thotlakonda — Ancient Ruins Above a Hidden Cove

Most people come to Thotlakonda for the Buddhist monastery ruins on the hilltop. What many miss is the small secluded cove below — rocky, clear water, accessible via a short path. Combine the monastery visit with a walk down for a morning well spent. About 16 km from Vizag, between Rushikonda and Bhimli.

4. Mangamaripeta Beach — A Fishing Village Shore

Past Bheemunipatnam on the northern coastal highway, Mangamaripeta is a quiet beach backed by a fishing village. No resorts, no crowds. The NH16 coastal stretch to get there is beautiful, especially in the early morning. Distance from Vizag: about 65 km north.

5. Sagar Nagar Beach — Where Locals Actually Go

Not exactly hidden, but most tourists skip it. Sagar Nagar is where Vizag residents go for a quiet evening swim. Low tide reveals long stretches of sand. About 12 km north on the Beach Road.

Tips Before You Go

Best time: Early morning (6–9 AM) for most beaches — less heat, better light, fewer people.
Which bike: Any scooter works for the northern coastal route to Bhimli. For Yarada, the hill climb is easier on an Activa 6G or 150cc motorcycle.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen. The underseat storage on a scooter handles this fine.
