Vizag to Bheemunipatnam — The Coastal Ride Worth Making Time For

If you have half a day, a rented bike, and you're anywhere near Vizag, the Beach Road run to Bheemunipatnam is the ride to do. It's about 24 km each way, most of it with the Bay of Bengal on your left, passing through some of the best scenery on the Andhra Pradesh shoreline.

The Route

Distance: 24 km to Bheemunipatnam (Bhimli)
Riding time: 45–60 minutes one way, depending on stops
Road condition: Good to excellent throughout

Head north from RK Beach on the main Beach Road. The route passes Rushikonda Beach, Thotlakonda Buddhist Ruins, Sagar Nagar, and Jodugullapalem before reaching Bhimli. Each is worth at least a brief stop.

What to See Along the Way

Rushikonda Beach (12 km): Wide, clean, and one of the nicest beaches in Vizag. Good for a swim if you're going early.

Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex (16 km): Ancient monastery ruins on a hilltop above the sea. The view from the top is one of the best in Vizag. A small secluded cove below the complex is worth a scramble down to.

Bheemunipatnam (24 km): Where the Gosthani River meets the Bay of Bengal. The Dutch cemetery here — one of the oldest in India, dating to the 17th century — is a fascinating and almost completely unvisited historical site. The estuary at sunrise is quietly spectacular.

Best Time for This Ride

Early morning (6–8 AM) is best. The light on the water is softer, traffic on the Beach Road is minimal, and if you time it right you catch the sunrise over the bay near Rushikonda.

Late afternoon (4–6 PM) is the second-best option — the heat has eased and you get a beautiful sunset on the return ride.

Which Bike for This Route

Any bike in our fleet handles this route comfortably — the Beach Road is smooth and flat. Even the Honda Cliq at ₹398/day is perfectly fine. For the most relaxed ride, the Honda Activa 6G (₹598/day) or Hero Glamour (₹498/day) are solid choices.

Extending the Ride — Mangamaripeta and Beyond

Push the ride further and Mangamaripeta Beach is another 40 km north of Bhimli on the NH-16 — a quiet fishing village beach with almost no tourists. The total round trip from Vizag becomes about 130 km, a full morning well spent. For more on Vizag's coastline, see our guide to Vizag's hidden beaches by bike.
