One of the things that makes Vizag a great base for biking is how many interesting places are within a reasonable weekend riding distance. You don't need to go far to find something worth riding to. Here are the routes our customers come back from talking about the most.
If you haven't done the Vizag-Araku route on a bike, it should be at the top of your list. The highway climbs through 36 ghats with tight curves, dense forest, and views down into the valleys that make you want to stop every few minutes. The valley itself has coffee estates, a tribal museum, waterfalls nearby, and a cool climate that's a complete contrast to coastal Vizag. Plan to leave by 6 AM, spend the afternoon exploring, and either stay overnight or head back by 3 PM to avoid riding the ghats in the dark. Our seasonal guide to Araku Valley by motorcycle covers when to go and what to expect.
Bike recommendation: 150cc+ motorcycle. Scooters can technically make it but will struggle on the steeper ghat sections.
Most people outside Andhra Pradesh have never heard of Lambasingi. Those who have been call it the Kashmir of AP — and while that's a bit of an overstatement, it genuinely gets cold. At around 1000 metres above sea level, temperatures in December and January drop close to freezing. The fog, the apple orchards, the mist over the hills — it's a genuinely different experience from anything else near Vizag. Best visited between October and February. Read the complete Lambasingi bike trip guide for the route, timings, and what to carry.
Bike recommendation: 150cc+ motorcycle. The route has some challenging sections.
Bheemili, as locals call it, is the closest proper beach getaway from Vizag. The coastal road there is flat and smooth, the beach is cleaner and less crowded than most Vizag beaches, and the Dutch cemetery (one of the oldest in Asia) is a genuinely interesting historical stop. Perfect for a relaxed morning ride — leave at 7 AM, have breakfast at one of the small dhabas near the beach, and be back before noon.
Bike recommendation: Any bike, including scooters.
The Borra Caves sit deep in the Eastern Ghats and the approach route is spectacular — winding roads, high ridges, and very little traffic once you're past the main highway. The caves themselves are around a million years old, filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The light inside is dramatic and the scale of the caverns is genuinely impressive. Pair the trip with a stop at the Katiki Waterfalls nearby if you have time. Full details in our Vizag to Borra Caves bike route guide.
Bike recommendation: 150cc+ motorcycle.
Vanjangi is famous for one thing — a sea of clouds that forms in the valley below during the early morning hours between October and January. If you time your ride to arrive at dawn, the view is extraordinary. It means leaving Vizag around 3-4 AM, which is an experience in itself — riding the empty roads in the dark with your headlight cutting through the cool air. Not for everyone, but those who've done it always say it was worth it.
Bike recommendation: 150cc+ motorcycle. Carry a jacket — it will be cold at dawn.
